Year-Round Volunteer Opportunities

Childcare Assistant

Monday - Friday
9 am - 5 pm
Our Child Care Department serves ages 6 weeks old to 5 years of age. Our trained, professional staff focus on providing our children with a fun curriculum in a safe classroom setting. Volunteers will serve as an extra set of hands and eyes in the classrooms. Activities include helping serve meals and snacks, sleeping schedules, changing diapers, sanitizing toys, etc. In addition, volunteers are expected to participate and engage in programming to ensure that clients have an enjoyable experience.

Food Pantry & Commodities Day Assistant

First Tuesday each month
12 pm - 3 pm
Each week, our Family Development Services Department provides food assistance to families and individuals in need. This project includes bagging and organizing the food as it arrives from our partners at The Food Bank. Once this food is bagged and ready to be distributed, our volunteers, called "Runners," help our clients carry this food to their vehicles. The Runners who assist during these busy days are a huge help to the entire agency!

Senior Center Assistant

Monday - Friday
9 am - 2 pm
With the only Nationally Accredited Senior Center in South Texas, we strive to provide a safe, enjoyable and active environment for our clients. Volunteers help in all aspects of our daily program. Activities include, but are not limited to, morning walks, bingo, serving meals, arts and crafts, and activity monitors. Each of these activities are in place to stimulate the mind, body and spirit of our clients. In addition, volunteers are expected to participate and engage in programming to ensure that clients have an enjoyable experience.

Group Volunteering

Several opportunities are available.

Bring Your Group to Good Sam

Many businesses are now seeing the short- and long-term benefits of bringing employees outside the walls of the office, and into the volunteer space. Whether this is your first company volunteer event, or you’re seasoned pros, Good Sam provides a fun, easy and engaging experience. Group volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to: plant weeding/landscaping; cleaning outdoor areas; hanging art/pictures; gardening; painting; restoring parts of the building.

Mentor - At least four (4) consecutive monthly visits at an hour each time

At Good Samaritan, we want to set the best example for our students. Mentoring provides them with a positive adult role model in their life. Through a program that focuses on the 40 Developmental Assets set by the Search Institute, we target areas where our students might need some extra attention. Students that show signs of risk are paired with a mentor. By engaging with our students, our mentors will provide a demonstration of these assets, like integrity and goal setting. Mentors must be at least 18 years of age and obtain a GED or high school diploma.

School Year

Mentoring is available during our Afterschool Program
from 4pm - 7pm

Summer

Mentoring is available during our Camp Good Sam program
